We are thrilled to share exciting updates on our leadership and continued mission to provide life-changing scholarships to Texas students who have lost a parent to a workplace death or catastrophic injury.
First, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to outgoing President Greg Gilbert. Since 2022, Greg has led with unwavering dedication, genuine passion, and exceptional vision. Under his guidance, Kids’ Chance of Texas has grown into a high-impact organization—raising record funds, expanding student support through EAP services and annual care packages, and awarding more scholarships than ever before. His tireless advocacy has positioned us for sustained success and even greater impact in the years ahead. Thank you, Greg, for your extraordinary service.
We warmly welcome our new leadership team, led by incoming President Catherine Benavidez-Anderson. A longtime board member with deep commitment to our cause, Catherine founded Injury Management Organization, Inc. (IMO) in 1991 and serves as its President/CEO. Her proven leadership and passion for supporting charitable initiatives make her the ideal person to guide KCTX forward.
Joining Catherine are:
- Hiawatha Franks – Vice President, Claims Officer, Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Risk Management Services
- Theresa Delbou – Treasurer, Senior Manager, Dallas Regional Office, Texas Mutual Insurance Company
- TJ LeBrun – Treasurer (effective July 2026), Catastrophic Claims Supervisor, Texas Mutual Insurance Company
- James Anderson – Secretary, Partner, Cattie and Gonzalez
We are also delighted to welcome four new board members:
- Riki Lee Burhans, Assistant Communications Director, Texas Division of Workers’ Compensation
- Barbara Curd, Vice President of Safety and Risk Mitigation, Professional Contract Services Inc. (PCSI)
- Jennifer Hurless, President, PartnerSource

With this strong, dedicated leadership team and the continued generosity of our supporters, Kids’ Chance of Texas is better positioned than ever to advance our core mission: opening doors to higher education for Texas children affected by workplace tragedy.
In the months ahead, we look forward to sharing exciting projects and events. For now, please review our 2025 Annual Report to see the profound difference your support is making in the lives of Texas students.
